HAVEN is a personal passion project that has been in the making since March 2021. At its core, it is a heavily character-driven story about Freedom, Truth, and Self-Determination, designed to be read like a novel rather than an episodic comic. If you enjoy a complex storyline with a lot of grey morality, you might enjoy this comic.

Even though HAVEN was originally based on a tabletop roleplay, it has undergone a lot of very serious changes from its origins.
The Old Version was started in Summer 2021, while the new and current version was started a year later, in Summer 2022, after doing a major overhaul from the realization that the project was simply too long, and not concise enough.
I am Julia Höck, also known as Wasserbienchen online. I’ve honed my art since I was 11, and I have a BA Hons in Art and Design, though that is not nearly as important as the kind of art I do.
I am also a regular artist for The Dungeon Coach, and generally am open to commissions, depending on the exact specifications.

The main reason I wanted a personal website is that I hate the idea that someone can control me. Even though web sites exist that let you publish comics for much less effort, I wish to own my own platform as much as I can.
Similarly, platforms such as Patreon are easier to use, but not only do they take a cut off profits, but they can also ban you for no reason whatsoever, similar to other modern social media. As someone who has always been outspoken, and someone who believes in the old internet and free speech, I have decided to make my own, even though it’s an investment I’m not sure will be financially profitable.
Additionally, you will see no ads on this website. If you’re used to adblock, you might not have noticed, but there is no space reserved for advertisement at all. I hate advertisements, and I have made the decision not to allow any. Similarly, I will never take advertisement deals. I believe in your freedom from stupid companies trying to waste your time.
My personal philosophy was always to have adblock on everything, but I am generous with giving a small amount of money to those creators whose work I’ve enjoyed. For the most part, if you give any amount of donations, you will far exceed what that creator would have gained from advertisements in the first place! Therefore, I encourage you not only to give money to me, but to the people whose creations you enjoy. Even a small amount will make a difference.
